About

My name is Jennifer Carter...

I have been documenting life through portraiture, wedding imagery, and artography for over 16 years. I am thankful to God for blessing me with a talent and passion that allows me to connect with so many people.

Light is the most important part of a photograph. I mean, aside from equipment, knowledge, and all the other stuff that makes it work. Yes, there’s also Photoshop that so many people rely on these days. But think about it…if the lighting isn’t just right, the whole shot is ruined. And it’s not just what light can do for a photograph. There’s so much more that is blesses. I love the way the light sweeps across a field at dawn. It’s so beautiful and dreamlike. It’s inspiring. A gift from God himself.

A few years ago, I got out of any work that involved photography. It felt like it was becoming more of a chore that I was performing instead of a passion that I was living out. Ever since walking away from my camera, I have had a light sweeping across my heart and my mind, fighting off the urge to pick my camera back up and start shooting again. I have missed it terribly. I craved working with people, capturing their lives, documenting connections. I finally realized that I gave it up for reasons that no longer matter. And the more I accepted that, the more the little light started growing bigger. This is where the name Lightswept Photography came from. I used to work by my own name, but I have changed and so has my inspiration.

It’s not only the light in a photograph that inspires us to create. Or the light from a field at dawn that I love so much. It’s not the light from a candle that’s lighting a dark room on a stormy night.  It’s any light that we see, shining through even the smallest crack. For many of us, we will find that when we are in the darkest places, we find the brightest light. I want the light from my creativity to shine brightly through me so that I may be able to share with it others.
